Mercedes from accion-del-sol finds a loving home with Manuela and Mike -Written by Manuela
Mike and I had been doing some research into Doggie T-Shirts as a potential new line for our printing business so we decided to go to a pet shop in Los Cristianos to see what’s available at the moment. Whilst at the shop we spotted some puppies in cages and had a look at them, they were soooo cute. Thinking nothing of it, we could not get one of the puppies out of our minds and we started talking about the potential of having a dog again. (We had a dog many years ago but didn’t replace him after he went.

We then decided rather than to get a puppy we should adopt a dog from a Refuge and we started trailing the internet searching K9 and Tier Aktion and a few others. We spotted her photo in the Tier Aktion Facebook Adoption Section and fell in love straight away but because TA are not open on Sundays (and it was Saturday) I got in touch via Facebook stating my interest in ‘Celeste’ the name given to Mercedes by TA and that we would come on Monday during their opening hours and please not to give her to anyone else. We drove up at 3pm and asked just for her. She was the most gorgeous sweet thing we’d ever seen and took her out for a walk around the Shelter and decided to take her home straight away. According to Marion at Tier Aktion, Mercedes had been found walking on the streets of San Miguel and she had been at the shelter for about 6 weeks and were were told she is about 2 years old..
.
She has brought so much life and love into our family, words cannot describe it. She comes everywhere with us and is a true companion. We are looking forward to many years of happiness with her.

Filou finds a home with Wollo and Petra with the help of Dominique and Regina at Madat -

At the tender age of 21 days, I was handed in by so called „Humans“ at the “last stop” dog centre in Tenerife . Regina got me out of there (Thank you) and put my details under the heading „Bobtail needs help” in the Internet. And that is how Wollo from Regensburger Landkreis found me, fell helplessly in love with me and offered me a “forever home” with him and his wife Petra. At first I didn´t get it, with other words, I had to leave my Regina and my buddies in our home in the mountains of Tenerife, flight stress etc. a lot to consider – and where and what is South Germany?

Wollo came to see me personally in Tenerife “not bad that guy, "I thought, but he won’t get round me that easily!” He came on 15.4. Supposedly to fly back on 17.4, taking me (to my new) home , just like that. Turned out to be not so easy! Volcanic eruption in Iceland, and no air traffic in Germany. I could stay here, Wollo had to. We then had some “Get to know each other time.” Nobody knew exactly what was going on. I couldn’t have cared less, I did not know what to expect when the volcano calmed down and I was leaving with Wollo . The stress people where under with the volcanic cloud and the flight ban where all beyond my understanding and I left them to it, but I must admit, I really looked forward to the daily visits of my new friend . Very nice!

On Monday 19.4 Regina and Wollo decided that it was time to check if the man and his dog could at some time leave this island by plane direction Central Europe. Wollo and I had to fly to Nuremberg with " Airberlin " (Car in Nuremberg) because that company also allows dogs ! At the information desk they were told: "next possible flight is on 30.4. "Wow ! Time for a cigarette and a chat to decide “back at the desk," Yes, 30th is ok, I suppose. "" No, THIS flight is now fully booked, next availability is on 5.5. “ Regina gets to hear that on a neighboring desk there is a flight on 24.4. to Paderborn . Wollo insists to take this flight as someone will be able to collect us at that airport and take us to the car in Nuremberg. And so it was that on 24.4 we finally arrived home shortly before midnight!
Petra constantly asked on the phone, " And how is our rascal ? " I said : " You will cry ".....

SO SHE DID ! :-)

Filou still had to contend with an intestinal infection, which thanks to friendly, competent veterinary care, was quickly controlled. He is growing physically, mentally and is conquering our hearts. He is exploring his new habitat with glee and learns to love it. We do everything that we possibly can in order for him to thrive and live a happy and fulfilled life.

Thank you Regina!
